It was over one century ago when Edouard Martell, descendant of Jean Martell and head of the company as well as a master blender with an acute familiarity with the Martell signature style, decided to create an iconic product that would stand as the emblem of the company. In 1910, he began researching this Cognac blend, combining eaux de vie from various parts of Cognac to create the Cordon Bleu - French for "Blue Ribbon", an emblem of the highest quality - and two years later, he finally unveiled Martell Cordon Bleu at the Hotel du Paris in Monaco. He determined that this cognac would be only made available at the most premium of locations, in the best hotels in the world and served at the most prestigious of events. Since then, Cordon Bleu has flown on the Concorde, been served to Queen Elizabeth II, and remains as the icon of Martell, representing its house style most fervently. 2012 marks the centenary of the birth of Martell Cordon Bleu, and to celebrate this momentous occasion, the brand once again revisited the Hotel du Paris with grandeur, hosting a fine dinner paired with the very best of Martell's creations from the Cordon Bleu to unique Borderies Selections (Borderies is one of the six regions of Cognac and its floral, fruity and gentle flavours with a hint of spiciness at the end remains one of the key characteristics of Martell) and the 1968 Millesime special edition. At the same time, the company unveiled two unique editions of the Cordon Bleu, both bearing the 100th anniversary insignia (marked by a '1' representing the icon of Martell, and an infinity symbol that hints at the eternal beauty of Cordon Bleu). The unique limited edition is housed in a case designed by Boucheron which will be presented soon enough, and the special edition is housed in a royal blue case and accompanied by a special edition of the Borderies Selection blended by master blender Benoit Fil himself. Check out the festivities at this centenarial fete of the Martell Cordon Bleu at Monaco, attended by Prince Albert II and his wife, Princess Charlene as well as Princess Caroline of Monaco. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dF0YeqZvaA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlk8RmK2VrU
