FESTIVAL: Night Festival 2010
2010 marks the third year of the wildly successful Night Festival. This year, the Bras Basah district transforms into a nocturnal amusement park with a psychedelic array of programs and performances taking place at the Singapore National Museum, Singapore Arts Museum, The Substation, Peranakan Museum and more. Conceived and curated by Ong Keng Sen, programme highlights include Abusement Park, a subterranean dungeon in the basement of the Singapore Arts Museum where visitors can experience the pleasure of pain, and Human SMS, also known as the World’s Slowest SMS Billboard, where text messages sent to a mobile number are assembled by a team of humans on a billboard. The full programmer can be found here.
16 - 17 July. National Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, The Peranakan Museum, The Substation, Singapore Management University Campus Green, Stamford Green & Stamford Road. 7pm - 2am. Free admission.

DANCE: Ballet Under the Stars
The ever popular Ballet Under the Stars is back for its 16th year. Expect a diverse and entertaining programme featuring ballet classic, Don Quixote; George Balanchine’s seminal work, Concerto Barocco and the premiere of Evening at the Ritz, a brassy throwback to the glamorous 20s and 30s inspired by the pairing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. A refreshing way to enjoy ballet outside the confines of a stuffy concert hall, pack a picnic basket and mat and hope for clear skies.
16 - 18 July. Fort Canning Park. Gates open 5pm, performance begins 7.30pm. $25, available at Sistic.

DRINK: Lantern Rooftop Bar, Fullerton Bay Hotel
The latest addition to the Collyer Quay heritage row is the newly launched Fullerton Bay Hotel. Sandwiched between the refurbished historical sites of Clifford Pier and Customs House, the hotel boasts sweeping views of Marina Bay and stunning interiors designed by celebrated designer, Andre Fu. Grab a drink and some posh nibbles at Lantern, the hotel’s stylish rooftop pool bar and allow your imagination to take you back to a time when Chinese junks and bumboats coursed through our waters.
The Fullerton Bay Hotel, 1 Fullerton Rd. Tel. 6597 5299.
