Sometimes, we just want to ditch the trusty backpack and live it up in a foreign land. But living it up needn’t mean paying an arm and a leg for it. This is where ImpulseFyer steps in. It offers its members the opportunity to experience the lap of luxury, way beyond what mainstream hotels offer, at exclusive members-only rates.
What we like, aside from good rates, are the complimentary treats. This can range from free airport transfers to dinners and spa treatments, depending on the deal offered. If you thought these deals are only for destinations in APAC, think again. ImpulseFlyer is gradually expanding its portfolio of destinations to the US and EMEA to offer more exotic luxury experiences to its members.
We spoke to Steven Gong, founder and CEO of ImpulseFlyer, on what inspired the venture and his thoughts on travel.
What made you want to start ImpulseFlyer?
As a frequent traveler and someone who loves hotels, I would spend hours and sometimes days looking for new hotels and new destinations to discover. But it's really hard to put in the time and effort to do this considering how busy we all are with our careers and everything else that's going on in our lives.
So I thought - there has to be a better way. Why isn’t there be a service that does all the ‘homework’ for me and recommends just the best hotels and destinations around the world at the best rates? It was like a light-bulb moment, and I realized that I wouldn't be able to sleep properly again until I started the company. So I did.
How often do you travel for leisure and where?
I travel more for business than leisure now that I’ve started ImpulseFlyer. But for leisure travel some of my favorite places are Bangkok, Phuket and Bali for short getaways, depending on what I want out of the holiday. I love staying at luxury and boutique hotels, especially those that provide exceptional service. Travel makes me feel alive and experiencing a fantastic hotel just elevates that experience.
Is there a gap in the market for this service?
ImpulseFlyer is essentially built from a service that I personally wanted to use, but looking more broadly it's targeting a market that has been completely neglected.
If you look at all of the online travel companies in the region, they are mostly mass-market brands whose sole purpose is to give you hundreds of different options for each destination, without caring about whether the hotel is good or bad, or any other filter. They provide a robotic, impersonal service that doesn't cater to the busy lifestyles of the region's affluent and emerging affluent customers.
Asia Pacific is also the fastest growing market for luxury travel in the world.
How is ImpulseFlyer different from conventional travel booking sites?
We sell one thing and one thing only - luxury & boutique hotels. We offer a high-end experience for consumers with discerning tastes through careful curation, and have exclusive rates and offers that are not available elsewhere.
We provide unique and original content to support the sales like videos, blog posts and active social media channels. We also provide a level of customer support that is generally not found in online travel sites. We offer real responses from real people.
