- on his pet peeve
A man of substance is...
Someone who is dedicated to the important things in life, not just the superficial. He is honest, fair, compassionate and is not afraid to show emotion.
Which male icon or celebrity do you admire and why?
In terms of style, I really admire Brad Pitt. I think he does the “classic” style well. He can pull off a formal, clean-cut or even a scruffy look. When it comes to business, I admire the success of Richard Branson. He’s a guy who started with very little and he’s always taken chances, but the thing I like the most about his approach to things is that he’s always trained people to run his businesses for him. He’s always looking for people who have the skills that he might not actually have to make his businesses the best that they could be.
What style item can you not live whout?
My dark blue jeans. It’s the item that I can dress it down with a t-shirt or dress up with a nice shirt and blazer. I couldn’t live without the versatility of it.
What are your pet peeves?
Superficial people. People who put an extra emphasis on material possessions. I’m all for people enjoying the fruits of their success, but I don’t think possessions prove your success. Personally, I don’t care what car you drive or what brand of clothes you wear.
If you were marooned on an island, what 3 essential items would you need to stay sane?
My wife, because she levels me and gives me a perspective of things that puts my mind at ease. An iPod, I love my music from Pink Floyd to Pearl Jam and Jamiroquai. A good supply of wine would be nice too. Good wine, preferably!
In your opinion, what are the issues affecting the modern man today?
There is a lot of pressure to be successful and a lot of guys view success as being successful in their professional life. But I think the real issue for modern men is to find the balance between working for that success and enjoying it, having some sort of relaxation time whether it’s having a family life or spending time with friends or enjoying a bit of sport.
Name three of your favourite movies.
The Departed for the great story and great acting. Top Gun is a movie I grew up with as a kid, the one-liners in it are awesome. Happy Gilmore, because I appreciate stupid comedies when I need to relax and it’s great when I just want to have a laugh.
