Synopsis

If there’s something that 2012 should be remembered for, this should be the year when the laissez-faire Singaporean evolved into a lively and creative individual who is ready to stand up for basic civil rights. We’ve cast aside aspersions that we are some sort of dull and monotonous society with the emotional range of an amoeba and determined that we should speak up for ourselves.

Looking back at 2012, I have to say that this has been the most challenging year of my life, but also the most thrilling, for I’ve had the opportunity to remind myself and those around me of what journalism is all about. True, our mode of writing is probably less contemplative than that of our peers in the dailies, but no less relevant. Hunter S. Thompson wrote once that “absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism”. It’s about re-establishing a focus on information, which has altered into an entertainment platform in the last few decades.

So we’ve decided to inform all we can about this season, that of entertainment and holiday cheer and gift-giving. And on our website, we’ll be doing exactly the same – 24 days of gifting that’s started since the month began, and will continue right up till Christmas Eve.

Enjoy August Man on print and online. And have a happy holiday season!
