Oasia is a new hotel brand by Far East Hospitality and its new flagship property in Novena promises to offer business travellers and vacationers a luxe alternative to the many popular names in town. As its name suggests, the hotel aims to provide a soothing respite for visitors with a focus on Asian hospitality and elegant aesthetics. Does it live up to its promise? Here's our review.

Location:  If you’re used to staycations in hotels located in the overcrowded districts of Orchard Road and Marina Bay, Oasia hotel promises to be a breath of fresh air. Although the Novena area is usually associated with luxury apartments rather than luxury hotels, the 428-room property is just two MRT stops away from Orchard Road and right next door to Novena Square and Square 2 shopping malls.

Lobby and overall decor: With public spaces conceptualised by Japanese design powerhouse Super Potato, the studio’s love for natural materials is evident throughout the hotel’s interior. Textured wood and stone feature walls dominate the stunning light-filled lobby and the effect is chic, sophisticated and soothing – just what you want to feel when you're looking to get away from it all.

Rooms: Oasia offers Deluxe Rooms and Superior Rooms styled by leading Singapore architectural firm Ong & Ong as well as Club Rooms and suites designed by Super Potato. The difference? The Club-category rooms receive the same design aesthetic as the lobby (think lots of wood), views from the 21st floor and above, and exclusive access to the Living Room executive lounge on the 22nd floor.

We were put up in a Club Room which was although neither small nor terribly large, made for a comfortable and luxurious stay. In addition to a king-sized bed, the room’s amenities include a 46” LED interactive television, an iPod docking entertainment system, a Nespresso machine and bath products from Thann. The complimentary in-room minibar with soft drinks, juices and beer replenished daily, and complimentary WIFI internet connection offered in the Club rooms were also a big plus.

Dining: Eateries in Oasia are limited, but sufficient if you’re not terribly picky. Zaffron is the hotel’s all day dining restaurant and features an international a la carte menu and daily buffets. Also within the hotel are Japanese, Chinese and Italian restaurants located on the first and second floors. In addition, Club guests can enjoy breakfast, complimentary cocktails and canapés daily from 6pm to 8pm at the Living Room lounge, as well as all-day and all-night snacks. If none of these satisfy your cravings, the malls next door offer numerous dining options and there’s always room service to fall back on.

Facilities: The hotel’s main facilities are found on the eighth floor; an “oasis” set on a roof terrace that features a tranquil landscaped bamboo garden, zen-like water features, a 20-metre swimming pool with jacuzzi facilities and a 24-hour fitness centre. If you have the chance to stay in a Club Room, take advantage of access to the Living Room which boasts a private living area and its own 20-metre swimming pool for greater privacy and stunning views of Singapore from the 22nd floor.

Verdict: Oasia is a welcome addition to the Singapore hotel scene for guests who want a comfortable and luxurious stay out of the downtown area with great transport links and easy access to conveniences.
