My most memorable cycling experience has definitely got to me cycling around palau ubin with my group of friends. It was so tiring but so much fun! I definitely love cycling cause you get to take in all the beautiful sights and sounds at once and you can stop anytime you want to smell the roses (or anything else for that matter). Best yet, its a healthy form of exercise and its environmentally friendly!

I don’t think I am a good rider, in fact I think I’m a lousy rider but even being a lousy rider I still have some pleasant memory of cycling in Singapore. I remember when I was very young, I used to ride my tricycle and chase after my elder brother and cousins. I always wanted to catch up to them and  they would always slow down for me and let me catch them.

It reminded me of the sweet childhood that I had, If I win this bike I will cycle with my niece and nephew and this time round I would be the one in front waiting for them to catch up. Let the cycle begin all over again

My most memorable cycling experience would be learning to cycle with my Dad when I was young. I remember getting really frustrated with my Dad when I lost balance and fell because he had released his hands from my bicycle. On hindsight, it was probably due to that bad fall that I learnt most about riding a bicycle. What my father had taught me wasn't solely about cycling alone. He had imparted to me invaluable life lessons - overcoming fears, the courage to keep going forward, and facing rejections with greater resilience. My Dad was an avid cyclist in his youth and although he doesn't cycle as much now due to a knee injury, his passion has rubbed off on me. He has handed down his priced bicycle to me and I am now using it to travel to school! Although the bicycle is old, it is still functional and we share tips about basic gears maintenance. Cycling has thus become a representation of this bond between my father and I. To me, cycling will always be the way I remember my Dad – his raspy voice, his battered fingers on the handles, and his burly figure on the bicycle.

Cycling is my preferred mode of transportation because not only is it fashionable, it also cares for the environment. The increasing cars on the roads in Singapore and the increasing crowd on trains and buses will only make cycling an even relevant and practical green option for young urbanites like myself.

I have many fond memories of my younger days. One of the most memorable was when my dad bought me my first bike when I was a kid. I lost track the number I'd fall down but always somehow always got myself right back up. Sports enthusiasts will say cycling is a healthy sport good for the body but to me it isn't always about keeping fit... Cycling to me is a like a personal intangible kind of journey, that exercises my mind.

You see, my most memorable cycling experience isn't those cycling kind of trips around the world but it was simply just about me and my partner going on a "Spirit of Adventure" in humble Singapore. We would just dropped everything with our lives, the stress, anger, tears & all, in that half a day and cycle. We had no set destination nor a set intention, what we had & all that we need were just each other's company. It was okay if we got lost & it didn't matter if we didn't know where to go next... We had each other for that half a day & that was all that mattered.

Our various cycling trips not only brought us closer together but was a learning field trip for us as we encountered & photographed the various unique flora & fauna all over Singapore. The most memorable was witnessing a beautiful majestic rare Purple Heron fishing for a snack. Like us, he didn't have a care for the world at that moment, all he had in mind, likes us, was to just value the simplest things in life.

Who would have thought a simple costless activity could give us a huge payout? We didn't care about any monetary rewards but the time we spend & value together is priceless.

The most memorable cycling experiences  I've had while riding in urban Singapore has to be the time when i have to do my deliveries on my Grandfather's trusted Raleigh bicycle when i was young. My grandfather and father would tell me (i was only about 12 then) to deliver packets of goods to different areas in the CBD area and i would load it on the bicycle's front basket and rear carrier. (goods on the rear were tied down using strings) and i would be so happy to go out and cycle as i get to see so many different places. A standard 2 hour delivery done by my elder brother will always by a 3-4 hours delivery for me as i will take longer routes to see more of Singapore.

23 years on, I still have such vivid memories of my the old and new Singapore as i cycle through the urban areas in Singapore now during my weekly riding sessions with my brother. We still go by the same route. I still have the same bicycle for delivery and I still take 3-4 hour delivery break now and then even though we have engaged courier companies to do our deliveries. Cycling has been a part of my family since young for work and now it has become part of a bonding session with my brother and family.

In my opinion, everyday is memorable for me everytime i cycle to work from Sengkang to my workplace in Marina Bay. I get to see and meet all people in all walks of life. From a parent bringing their kid to school in bicycle, aunties going for early groceries, the karung gunis plying the streets, the leisure riders in PCN, my fellow commuters and many more. I can see how a bicycle is a necessity for them. It is part of their daily life and their daily companion which makes their life a little bit easier, if not, bearable.

This is especially true when I cycle with my 3 yrs. old daughter. She’s able to see Singapore in a whole different light, explore the unpopular and unexplored. I get to share with her the joy of cycling.
Forging happy memories between us is the most memorable of all and hoping she’ll pass on those memories for generations to come.

For my part I choose to cycle to work because it forces me to exercise for my well-being, saves me money on transportation costs thus saving that 1 more spot in the bus or mrt or saving 1 more car in the road which guzzles up gas and contributes to greenhouse effect.
I choose to cycle to work to show others that it is possible. I’m able to show my fellow road users and commuters alike that there are others who follow road rules and regulations, who are gracious and considerate on the road.
I expose myself to relative danger so bit by bit other road users are exposed by cyclists on the road. If there are more cyclists on the road then both parties will slowly learn to co-exist and look out for each other’s safety.
Then maybe one day accidents would be a rare occurrence. And maybe, just maybe, everyone can be a little bit healthier and happier.

My most memorable cycling experience in urban Singapore has to be that fateful day when I cycled along a major road and witnessed human drama of a level I never before experienced. My cycling helmet straps were uncomfortable and I made a brief stop on the grass patch under a shady tree to attend to it. Without warning, a jarring screeching sound like an angered banshee emanated from a Japanese sedan on the adjacent road right before it fishtailed and slammed hard into a German car in front which had stopped at the traffic junction. Apparently, the driver had not realised the traffic lights had turned red. Two heartbeats later, another German car arrived at high speed, the car's snout dipping, brakes biting hard, but just not hard enough. The inevitable happened and this German car careened into the Japanese sedan, reducing the sandwiched sedan into an accordion like wreck. Only good fortune prevented any more vehicles from joining the pile up. Stunned into opened jaw silence, it took some seconds for witnesses like me to react. Many reached for their mobiles to rightly summon an ambulance, while others like me tried to warn and divert oncoming vehicles. Some disappointingly started taking pictures of the crash, either to post on social media or to record the license plate numbers to buy 4D lottery tickets with later. The drivers of the front and back German cars stumbled out of their vehicles, shaken, and started taking pictures also, then arguing above the din of traffic. Through all this, no one had realised that the driver of the Japanese sedan failed to exit his vehicle as expected. Chillingly, he lay ominously still behind the now deflated airbag in a slumped position. Red, precious blood streamed down his face and chest, almost rendering him unrecognisable as a person. By now, all attention was focussed on this unmoving driver, but passers-by were unsure how to proceed. Someone correctly declared that he should not be moved by untrained personnel in case of cervical and spine injuries. A lady and I tried to keep him conscious by assuring him that medical help was on its way, but he drifted in and out of consciousness, perhaps in a fierce mortal struggle with the Grim Reaper. In a minor miracle, the ambulance arrived within 30 minutes despite the heavy traffic, but it truly felt like an eternity. The medics placed a cervical collar on the injured driver and gingerly pulled him out of the smoking wreck and loaded him onto a gurney, assessing his vital signs. Finally, the ambulance sped off with its casualty, leaving a gawking crowd behind. It was an incredibly emotional roller coaster ride, from shock to realisation to horror and then acceptance. We never found out if the injured driver survived or succumbed to his injuries, but it was a sobering experience for all who witnessed it. Life can be cut short unexpectedly, and it was a grim reminder to value our limited time with loved ones. To experience the best and worst of human behavior in the space of an hour was more moving than I imagined. The episode did remind me to ride more safely and be more aware of the surrounding traffic, ever dynamic, ever potentially dangerous. But I still choose to ride, not just because it results in a cleaner and greener world for all, but because I find it cathartic to feel the breeze on my face, to see people and places flash by, to listen to the sounds of urbanisation, to smell the trees and grass and exhaust that we emit into our environment, and sometimes to taste the rain. In short, to truly experience life in urban Singapore.

For those of us with Suzuki Outboards Sale a reasonable fear of the ocean, this is a worst case scenario: Last week, Dan Suski, 30, and his sister Kate Suski, 39, chartered a fishing boat in St. Lucia. Things were going fine, despite the rough seas, and the siblings even managed to hook a 200-pound marlin. They were battling the giant fish when water rushed onto the boat and flooded its engine room. As the captain radioed for help, another surge Yamaha 4 Stroke Outboard of water swamped the boat. At that point, the captain tossed the Suskis life jackets and ordered them into the ocean.

"He said, 'Jump out! Jump out!'" Kate Suski recalled in a telephone interview Thursday with The Associated Press.

The captain and the first mate soon joined them and Yamaha 150 outboard, five minutes later, the boat sank, leaving the group stranded at least eight miles from shore. The group stayed put for the first hour, awaiting rescue. No one came. The group started to swim, but the rough waves caused the Suskis to became separated from the captain and first mate. "We would just see swells and gray," Dan Suski said.

Hours went by. A helicopter and search plane arrived but failed to notice the two siblings. They continued swimming. Eventually, the sun went down.

"There's this very real understanding that the situation is Yamaha outboard motors dire," Kate Suski said. "You come face-to-face with understanding your own mortality ... We both processed the possible ways we might die. Would we drown? Be eaten by a shark?"

Neither could stop thinking about sharks. "I thought I was going to vomit I was so scared," Kate said.

Finally, after 14 hours, they came within 30 feet of land only to discover the coast was covered with cliffs, making it impossible to climb from the ocean. “We knew we would get crushed,” Kate said.

They kept swimming, Yamaha outboards Sale finally finding a small stretch of sand. Once ashore, they collapsed before again going into survival mode to avoid hypothermia. They hiked into the island and huddled together, covering themselves in grass and brush to stay warm. They spent the night like that, only moving when the sun rose. It took three hours before they found a farmer, who called police and gave them water and crackers.

They would later find out that the captain and first mate had been rescued after 23 hours in the ocean.

Despite dehydration, severe tendonitis and Honda outboards Sale cuts over their feet and back, the couple didn't blame anyone for the ordeal.

"We are so grateful to be alive right now," Kate Suski said. "Nothing can sort of puncture that bubble."
