The Greater Good

Contributing to the betterment of the environment has various aspects that one could cover. For Syed Mohd Ilyas, it’s composting. Having his own farm, Selangor Fruit Valley and his own cafe called Sugar and I, he emphasises on both outlets to practise the method.

“I truly believe that composting is part of the future of farming: the compost not only makes the soil more fertile, the fully organic process also reduces landfill through the recycling of waste matter,” said Ilyas.

A process of combining biodegradable and organic items and making a bed of fertile elements that can be used for farming, composting treats the Earth’s soil for a chance of regrowth. The threat of plastic usage and other contributors is leading to much pollution and hazards on Earth.

Thus, together with Timberland’s environmental pursuit, Ilyas wants people to change up their habits and start in whichever small ways that can help the environment.

“Anyone and everyone can do their part in helping with the environment. We can start by reducing the use of non-biodegradable products like plastic straws, take away containers and cutleries made of plastic and plastic bags.”

Ilyas is also encouraging people to go the extra mile by composting. An easy process that can also lead to one having their own personal little garden. By doing this, composting reduces the wastage and usage of daily items we use for our convenience, like plastic. Also, with this mindset to help the Earth, Ilyas believes that everyone can become the hero that Mother Nature needs.

Simple Favours for Mother Nature

A symbol of serenity, plants are nature’s finest air filters. Given its aesthetic values, Neal and Nigel have found a way to bring these serene beings into people’s lives as its cool and green tones bring calmness to the eyes and add up a tranquil accent to the room.

Together, they founded Rent A Pot, a landscape and events company primarily focusing on providing long term and short term plant rental services. On the side, the company also contributes to interior designs garden maintenance and landscape work for events, festivals and homes. So far, their works have helped cut down the usage of plastics and other contributors to the Earth’s current state.

With the Nature Needs Heroes pursuit helmed by Timberland, the twins believe that simple favours can help the environment heal. “The Nature Needs Heroes campaign highlights that only we ourselves can make the changes by being the heroes to save our planet.”

With Rent A Pot, they are aiding in Mother Nature by planting trees. One of their recent activities was a tree planting event with SmartReader, which has brought 560 children together and plant trees in a park.

“If these kids can do their part for the environment, we’re pretty sure us adults can do twice as much. It’s never too late or too expensive for anyone to do their bit for the environment. It doesn’t cost much to buy plants from nurseries and plant them in and around our homes.”

With recent tragedies like the constructed forest fires that are hazardous to our health, Neal and Nigel also advise parents to teach their children about the ongoing environmental issues, so to sustain the preservation of the environment.
