The Greatest Showman trailer
The film tells the story of P.T Barnum (played by Hugh Jackman), the once Mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut, who also founded the Barnum and Bailey Circus in 1919, which enjoyed a 146-year long legacy before its fate just last month. Due for release on Christmas Day, the film stars Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and a lineup of what you would expect at a circus – jugglers, magicians, performing animals and the usual “curiosities” – not to mention some trials and tribulations, that will eventually make it The Greatest Show On Earth.
Another biographical film to hit the silver screens later this year is one of Robin Cavendish (played by Andrew Garfield), a former army captain who was affected by polio was he was 28. Despite his initial three months lifespan, Robin was one of the longest living “responauts” hooked on a mechanical respirator (he passed away in 1994 at the age of 64), and went on to become the advocate for the disabled – partly thanks to the unconditional support and love from his wife, Diana (played by Claire Foy.)
adidas Zissou Limited Edition pack
Since we are on the topic of movies, when one of Wes Anderson’s beloved films The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou hit the theatres in 2004, there have been petitions going around for a crucial piece of memorabilia featured in the film: Bill Murray’s Steve Zissou custom made adidas shoes. This year, prayers have been answered during the We Love Green festival in Paris, when Seu Jorge (who played the Bowie loving and singing Pele dos Santos in the movie), took to the stage to perform ‘The Life Aquatic – A Tribute to David Bowie.’ A limited 100 pairs of the adidas Zissou shoe was released with its signature yellow laces and blue and light blue three stripes – a colour palette that was significant for the movie. Not to mention, the word “Zissou”, emblazoned on the sides of each shoe.
Nike Air Jordan x Converse “UNC Alumni” pack
Another sneaker release that has gotten the sneakerheads’ laces all in a knot is this double pack, which features the Converse Fastbreak and the Nike Air Jordan 2 – two shoes that have played their respective crucial roles in making the legendary career of the famed NBA basketball player Michael Jordan. A tribute to His Airness, the Converse Fastbreak, available in the airiest of sky blue, reminisces Jordan’s earlier days in the court, with its form, nylon and leather blend engineered to be one of the lightest hoops shoes of its time. Whereas the Air Jordan 2 comes in the UNC collegiate colours of the Chicago Bulls red and black, and the subtlest hints of the Chapel Hill sky blue. Peeking from the inside of the tongue is Jordan’s iconic “23”, and at the back of the shoe, “6/28/87”, the fateful day when he played the classic North Carolina vs UCLA Alumni Game at the Pauley Pavilion – exactly 20 years since then on the day of the pack release – before he went on to win his first league MVP award for the 1987-88 season.
