Artistic activity has long been associated with therapeutic effects, with psychological experts citing reduced stress and anxiety as some of its benefits. If that isn’t enough to encourage us to take up creative pursuits, then indulging in it, if only to use some of the fine stationary available out there.

Faber-Castell already has quite an existing range that is quite spectacular but nothing quite like what has just been released.  The company recently joined forces with the legendary Karl Lagerfeld to create the KARLBOX, a limited-edition collection of high-end drawing tools and artists’ supplies.

“Since I was a child in Germany, Faber-Castell has been the most famous brand, known for its especially good quality,” said Karl Lagerfeld. “That reputation remains just as true today, particularly for artist pencils.”

Despite the technological tools that are available, the designer continues to use pen and paper to express himself, tools he has always used throughout his illustrious career. From fashion design to writing and penmanship, Lagerfeld most often turns to pen and paper to bring his ideas to life, using Faber-Castell, to create countless works of art. With each brush of a pencil or pastel, a new vision is created.

“What amuses me while drawing is the fact to draw,” explained Lagerfeld. “To me, drawing is like breathing and writing. These are things that almost relax me.”

The KARLBOX collection features a varied selection of premium artists’ tools including Albrecht Dürer and Polychromos colour pencils, highly pigmented Pitt Artist ink pens, Castell 9000 graphite pencils and Pitt crayons and -pastels, watercolour brushes and accessories like a foldable water cup, an eraser and sharpeners.

Crafted with the highest degree of quality, shades are sorted by primary and secondary colours, ranging from soft pastels to vibrant and intense pigmentations. Lagerfeld’s own favourite product line is the Albrecht Dürer artist range of watersoluble colour pencils. All 120 shades are included in the KARLBOX.

It also contains 350 fine quality art tools for drawing and painting, all of which are presented in a sleek black box specially designed by Lagerfeld. Produced with exemplary craftsmanship, its wooden frame resembles a Chinese wedding cabinet; inside, drawers store the art supplies, sorted by colour shades, all of which have been personally selected by the designer, symbolising the synergy between fashion, art and design.

The individual drawers are removable in order to set them up for creative work. Every one-of-a-kind box has a serial number and certificate of authenticity, making each completely unique and unmistakeable. The KARLBOX will be available for approximately €2,500 (depending on the markets).

Only 2,500 units of the KARLBOX have been made and are available exclusively at Faber-Castell stores, Isetan The Gardens Mall & Suria KLCC, Parkson Pavilion & Suria KLCC, Czip Lee Bangsar, from Sept 16 onwards. Check in-store for further details.
