Intent on showcasing the luxurious, gentlemanly, multifaceted and go-getter spirit that the magazine encapsulates, August Man inaugurated the first instalment of what we hope to be the annual campaign of The A-List, a series of lifestyle experiences and good-humoured camaraderie, ranging over food and beverages, watches, grooming, fashion, motoring, fitness, etc, undertaken by a group of enterprising professionals who embody style, substance and success.

Developed in partnership with the participating lifestyle brands, the A-List campaign, which runs throughout the year, is pleased to have on board this year Auchentoshan, Breitling, Celebrity Fitness, Clique Clinic, Parkson and Volkswagen. Held at Bookmark within the heritage printing facilities of APW in Bangsar, the launch party saw the stark, gallery-style room transformed into a stylish, cocktail setting, enhanced with a whisky bar by single malt Scotch brand Auchentoshan, a mobile photo booth, screen projection, mood lighting and an elegant, white marquee at the entrance, under which displayed the latest release of the Volkswagen Golf in lustrous white.
Upon arrival, guests who included blogger Venice Min and actor Frederick Lee were greeted by the handsome, sporty “World Car of the Year”, and those who took a creative photo with the stylish hatchback stood a chance to win a week of test drive. Amid indulging their spirit palate, guests were also treated to a special whisky presentation by Auchentoshan, highly acclaimed for its triple distillation and hence award-winning taste for being among the smoothest and most delicate.

When it came time for the launch, TV host and commère of the evening Amelia Henderson took the stage with an official welcome address and invited editor-in-chief Rubin Khoo to deliver a brief introduction to The A-List campaign, followed by a video presentation of the 2016 A-Listers. To the guests’ surprise, the presentation culminated in a grand reveal as two moving wall panels opened into a new section of the room, showcasing all ten men of the hour in the flesh.

This year’s line-up stars menswear creative director Shahrin Bahar, real escape game Breakout co-founder Cheah Ka Wai, acupuncturist and founder of 1TCM Acupuncture Clinic KC Ng, senior VP of Celebrity Fitness Ryan Cheal, lead tender and project sourcing manager in energy and utilities Sherman Lau, wellness guru Wong Yu Jin, communication technology entrepreneur David Ng, MBA counsellor Raymond Khor, CEO of entertainment and talent company LOL Events, known for launching The Comedy Club KL, Rizal Kamal, and entertainment and nightlife entrepreneur Joseph Ryan of Live House.

More excitement ensued, with guests gathering for a lucky draw session that saw two winners walk away with vouchers from Parkson and three from Clique Clinic. As guests and the A-Listers continued to unwind and mingle, the event progressed into a night of networking, revelry and more photo-taking, with upbeat music by DJ Nadia, a good start to what we foresee to be an exciting campaign.
