Rodney Barnes, who is currently working on a series about the Los Angeles Lakers for HBO, has been chosen to write a miniseries about golfer Tiger Woods based on the explosive unofficial biography by Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyiann.
A screenwriter has already been appointed to pen the script for a miniseries about one of the richest sportsmen in the world, which was first reported to be in the works in 2019. Rodney Barnes, who recently signed off on an episode of the series “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” for the Hulu platform, has been announced to head the new project.
The Tiger Woods miniseries will be based on the controversial biography of the golfer by Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyiann published in 2018. The book, which became a New York Times bestseller, sparked controversy with its account of the extraordinary comeback made by one of the most talked-about sportsmen of recent years.
Taking as its starting point, Tiger Woods’ automobile accident the day after Thanksgiving in 2009, an event that precipitated a scandal over his sexual infidelities, which were widely reported in the American press, the biography documented the golfer’s descent into hell before his fantastic return to the top.
In the course of writing their book, the two authors interviewed over 250 people, including a number of professional golfers and Tiger Woods’ chiropractor.
The instigators of the project, Entertainment 360 and Wheelhouse Entertainment’s Spoke Studios will co-produce the miniseries.
As it stands, no television network or streaming platform has been announced as a partner in the project, and the name of the actor to play the role of Tiger Woods has yet to be disclosed.
