We’ve had a long year, take a break and check out these new restaurants and cafes around KL and PJ this October 2020.
It has been a long and arduous year for many. And while we’re steadily picking ourselves back up to our feet, it’s also good to look at others who have taken a leap of faith, especially in these trying times. It’s hard to imagine any new businesses to be popping up so soon, and yet you see new eateries making their debut around the city.
For our October edition of new restaurants and cafes, we take a look at 10 new places for you to check out. There are plenty of choices from pizza to Japanese, to meatless options and more, which is good because we are in desperate need of some variety.
Aside from that, plenty of new entrants have made its way onto the scene, as well as the introduction of the second outpost of a famed Japanese Matcha specialist.

1. M’Laboori
A sister creation to the popular Murni Discovery, M’Laboori brings a dramatic switch of play into place. It’s located just a stone’s throw away from the original Murni location in SS2, PJ. What makes M’Laboori different from its counterpart in that it’s meat-free, it’s a library, and it’s also a cafe. Aside from that, it also offers a delectable menu that spans across sandwiches, pasta, pizza, and more. There’s also great coffee to go along with its equally tastefully done platings.
2. Bushido modern Yakitori bar
There aren’t many yakitori eateries around Klang Valley, bar a few notable locations. Bushido Modern Yakitori Bar aims to do its namesake dish justice around Mid Valley Megamall. It offers delectable plates of freshly charred prawns, scallops, chicken, beef, and other offals the Japanese just love. While some may not have the stomach for it, yakitori enthusiasts will want to pay this place a visit.
Bringing casual Japanese dining into the game is none other than Mūsu KL. Operating out of the Sri Hartamas suburbs, you’d get to tuck into authentic Japanese cuisine in a more casual and relaxed setting. It serves up all of Japan’s most popular dishes, including rice bowls, sushi, yakitori, and tempura, just to name a few.
4. Bamboo Jungle Chinese Restaurant
If Chinese food is what you desire, then head over to Bamboo Jungle Chinese Restaurant at Jalan Raja Chulan, in the heart of KL. It offers everything you could possibly want out of a Chinese restaurant — it serves dim sum from morning until the late afternoon while also serving Cantonese specialities like the Empurau Fish as well as Peking Duck.
5. Chateau Dionne KL
Plaza Damansara is steadily becoming a hot spot once again, especially with the opening of Chateau Dionne KL. The iconic French fine dining restaurant hailing all the way from Shanghai has finally made its way to our shores. It brings along its warm service with a classy ambience to boot if its delicate creations and the extensive wine list isn’t already enough. Expect intricate platings, exotic pairings of flavour and colour, as well as fine wine all around.
6. Le Gourmandin
Publika Shopping Gallery hosts a smorgasbord of restaurants, cafes, and other eateries. You may think that Le Gourmandin is just another name on the block but you best take another look. Serving authentic French cuisine, Le Gourmandin highlights the best that French food has to offer in a more relaxed and modern setting. Did we also mention that it’s strictly halal?
7. Cafe Rocco
Owner and Chef Hon Sing is the driving force behind Cafe Rocco and he was also the founder behind the private supperclub, Hungry Mario. Now in his very own space, chef Hon Sing brings his artistic flair of “Chitalian” fusion cuisine to the forefront. Cafe Rocco is also a restaurant as well as a catering service, ensuring that even customers who are planning to throw parties and gatherings deserve to have good food.
8. House of Lulu’s
House of Lulu’s brings a new, fresh, and exciting approach towards the casual day to night dining experience in Plaza Arkadia. There are sharing plates, signature dishes, as well as crafty cocktails to sip on throughout the day and into the night. Be sure to check out their pumpkin ravioli and beef entrecote while you’re at it, wash it all down with some exclusive house cocktails.
9. Wop pizzeria
Pizza makes its way onto the list not once, but three times with WOP Pizzeria coming in first in no particular order. This new pizza parlour can be found in Plaza Damas around Hartamas. Pizzas here are made out of sourdough, which has been fermented for 48 hours in the cold. With cheese being a major component of pizza, WOP Pizzeria ensures its buffalo mozzarella is homemade and fresh. The pizzas are also cooked with firewood from local mangroves.
10. Niko Neko Matcha 2.0 (Chinatown)
After making a name for itself from its location in Bangsar, Niko Neko Matcha is now operating out of its second outpost. Niko Neko Matcha 2.0 is located in the heart of Chinatown, just across the road from the Pasar Seni MRT. What its first outlet lacked in space and parking, its second outlet more than makes up for it. Bringing back its signature green tea beverages and pastries, Niko Neko Matcha 2.0 also features a gallery section of antique Matcha bowls.
