It’s a distillery that opened shop in 2006. Located in the obscurity of northeastern Taiwan and named after an indigenous tribe. So you can imagine how astonishing that Kavalan continues to win one accolade after the next at whisky’s highest levels. The latest addition to an already bulging trophy cabinet, is a second-year-in-a-row win at the International Spirits Challenge 2017. The bottle in question is the Kavalan Solist ex-Bourbon Single Cask Strength. With aging techniques that have been tuned to harnesses the benefits of aging in a humid and hot climate, this bottle offers crisp tropical spices with a well-balanced natural sweetness. Think vanilla, coconut and peppery finishes, and you’re not far off. A great treat to accompany spicy cigars or taken neat, Kavalan has been called, “wonderfully rich, complex and interesting” by renowned whisky writer Alwynne Gwilt. Other awards include World’s Single Cask Best Single Malt Whisky for their Solist Amontillado Sherry Singel Cask Strength, from the 2016 World Whisky Awards.
