If you have caught the two Ironman films and more recently, The Avengers, no one can blame you for your fascination with Tony Stark’s tech toys. As a matter of fact, your fantasies may very well become reality sooner than you think. Google has just unveiled their latest product that promises to be a breakthrough in today’s already advanced state of technology, called “Project Glass”.
The head mounted device (HMD) offers a very exciting prospect to a world of hands-free communication. Unfortunately, it is only in the early stages and Google co-founder Sergey Brin has revealed that it won’t be ready for the mass consumer market until 2014. Worn above the eye, the device does away with lens to allow for smoother usage without disrupting your daily activities, especially when you’re on the road. The possibilities are endless, though. Other than displaying GPS-like directions right before your eyes, the Wi-Fi enabled “Project Glass” can do the same for your WhatsApp conversations, and also things like tweeting, photo taking and latest scores of an ongoing game.
Interestingly, “Project Glass” enables you to, in a way, “walk a mile” in another person’s shoes. I mean adopting his POV, literally. Thanks to a camera function within, you could be lounging on your couch one moment as the headset whisks your senses away to a buddy over at iFly Sentosa, and you get a first hand POV of his skydiving experience. Of course, the other party would have to be connected via the same device as well.
At the moment, Google is only selling the prototypes to attendants of their annual conference in San Francisco, for $1500 each.
With such futuristic technology in the offing, it’s only a matter of time that you get the chance to indulge in your inner Starks as you swipe the air to sort out your spreadsheets.
