Wan Azim

Head of Operations, Awesome One Sdn Bhd

What are some of the things that you are passionate about?

I love driving cars, travelling, and food [laughs]. I’ve been interested in motorsports ever since I was a late teen. I started to develop that interest during the heyday of Formula 1. That’s how I picked up my interest. During college, I started go-karting. I went deeper into that. Until today, I’m still doing those kinds of activities.

How do you balance the fine line between career and lifestyle?

You gotta put in a lot of effort, hard work. You gotta know what you want. You need to know the tipping point of either side.

How’d you describe success?

A lot of people would measure success in monetary terms. For me, success is more on how you define yourself. To me, there are a couple of things that defines success. First of all is my family. Secondly, when I set a goal for myself, once I achieve it, that’s success to me. Most important of all, it has to be balanced.

What does it mean to be a gentleman?

It’s like in the movie Kingsman, manners maketh man. It’s true. You have to be conscious about the people around you, you have to be considerate, treat other people well, and respectful. Unfortunately, it seems that being respectful is in scarcity.

What is the ultimate experience for you?

The day my son was born. It really changed me a lot. The way I see things, the way I perceive things. Priorities. Everything. When you look at your child, you think to yourself, “Wow, I’m a father now”. I have to educate him, I need to teach him the right values, manners. All of these. I’ve to instill it in him. But baby steps, of course [laughs]. I know it’s cliché to say this, but it’s the best thing that has ever happened to me.
