Ryan Pang

It’s the typical clich. Man gets inspired by the coffee in Melbourne and decides to start something similar in Singapore. The kicker here is that Pang has been running Habitat Coffee for more than eight years ミ an anomaly in the cutthroat world of F&B. According to Ryan, what keeps people coming back is not only the coffee, but the delicious comfort food and great service.

Would you say that you’re competitive?

Well, ever since I started CrossFit four years ago, I would say that I have become more competitive, not with other people, but with myself. Age is catching up, and staying fit is really about health and longevity.

What about taking risks?

To be honest, I don’t consider myself a huge risk taker, which might be odd since I started a business. At that time, I would say I was more of an impulsive person and opened the place because I found a focus and a passion. When I look back on it, I guess it worked because I was in the thick of it most of the time. Now, even though I have staff, I still like to get my hands dirty.

Is that how you will live the rest of your life?

Yes, I always remind myself to be humble and to stay true to my roots. It helps me to appreciate the people at different levels and build better relationships because of that. A lot of people forget about what others have done for them in the past, so I always remind myself to remember that.
