Swiss watch brand Mido has officially announced its partnership with renowned South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun. As a Mido brand ambassador, Kim Soo Hyun fronts the new Ocean Star 200C, a model that carries a distinctive character that he particularly appreciates. What these two share in common is the determination and ambition to achieve the highest level of performance — be it in watchmaking or in the honing of artistry.

This alliance is synonymous with performance, the common trait that Mido, Kim Soo Hyun, and the novel Ocean Star 200C all share. Like the impressive filmography the well-known actor has in his repertoire of achievements in South Korea and the world over, the new Ocean Star 200C is a balancing act between performance and technology.

“We are delighted to release this partnership with Kim Soo Hyun, which enables us to personify our watches through an ambassador who has both charisma and inspiring personality,” expresses Franz Linder, CEO of Mido.

At Mido, every collection is inspired by the architecture of a monument with which it shares aesthetic outlines and durability over time. For over a century, the Swiss brand has been an international reference in Swiss watchmaking for the performance of its timeless models — cutting-edge technology, excellent automatic movements, and high-quality materials.

Kim Soo Hyun says: “For me, Mido is a dynamic Swiss watch brand, offering both elegant and sporty collections. What impressed me above all was that the watch design is inspired by architecture. This is unique!”

The Ocean Star 200C

With the new Ocean Star 200C, Mido confirms its constant desire to bring cutting-edge technology to the table, alongside the very best materials, and high-end finishes without compromising the value of its watches. The ceramic rings adopts a bright green shade — a novel colour for the Swiss watchmaking — which can be found on the matt dial decorated with a sipped texture, completing the new, distinctive face of the Ocean Star 200C. Its technological performance is provided by the Caliber 80 automatic movement, additionally to its water-resistance up to 200 metres.

The Ocean Star 200C has a charismatic presence on athletic wrists with its textured matt green dial. The diamond-cut and satin-finished hour hand and minute hand provide excellent readability, as does the sweep seconds, instantly recognisable thanks to its apple-shaped tip. The hour circle is punctuated by round indexes, with an inverted triangle at 12 o’clock, embracing the spirit of diving watches.

With 60-minute graduations around its edge, the rotating bezel — whose exceptionally scratch-resistant ring is in high-tech ceramic — can be used to count time intervals. Thanks to the white Super-Luminova® on the indexes, hands, and the market at 12 o’clock on the bezel, each of these indications can be read perfectly whether in broad daylight or in the low-light conditions. The pragmatic day and date display is placed at 3 o’clock. And with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides, the sapphire crystal provides an unimpeded view of the dial’s captivating colour.

The model in question is also equipped with the Caliber 80 automatic movement, which is exceptionally reliable thanks to its power reserve of up to 80 hours. The movement is protected by a robust stainless-steel case water-resistant to a pressure of up to 20 bar with its screwed crown and case back. On the case, a combination of textures catches the light — shiny polished flutes and edges are juxtaposed with the elegant satin-finished surfaces of the flanks. On the case back, there is a polished starfish in relief — a nod to the collection’s nautical ethos.

The Ocean Star 200C comes with a green, a blue or a grey dial, each with a matching ceramic bezel. Pair that with a folding clasp, the stainless steel bracelet incorporates a diver’s extension that makes it ideal for a range of everyday styles. In a sophisticated detail for more urban wearers, the links are satin-finished not he sides of the bracelet and polished in the centre — playing with light and creating contrasting reflections for extra swag.
