We are just a little more than two weeks till the much anticipated launch of H&M’s designer collaboration collection for the year with British fashion label ERDEM, which will hit the outlets at Lot 10 and Avenue K on 2 November from 8AM onwards, and online on the same day from 5PM onwards.

We are especially excited for the collection this year, as it will be designer Erdem Moralioğlu’s first ever menswear collection, despite his renowned masterpieces for the ladies that have patronising many red carpets the last few years, in prints, textiles and delicate craftsmanship filled with historical references and personal narratives of his Turkish and English heritage.

We went through the extensive collection and decided on pieces that we might just take time off from work to queue up for. (Shh, don’t tell our bosses though).

ERDEM has always been famous for its expressive English floral prints, and for this collaborative collection it’s no exception, as it appears on the burgundy short-sleeve shirt, and the matching 100% silk olive green pyjama pants with piping trim, reminiscence of the countryside wallpapers from the ’60s. Besides that, the signature floral prints are translated onto a pair of slip on leather sneakers, pocket square, and backpack – accessories that are perfect to pair with cleaner wardrobe pieces to give the overall ensemble that added English elegance.

Sharp tailoring has echoes of Erdem’s father’s suits and coats, with a neat blazer with faint windowpane check print with a ticket pocket to give it a sense of the countryside from days gone by, whereas lined on the inside are black-on-black floral jacquard with contrast stitching and a grosgrain ribbon trim. The Harris tweed coat comes neat and fitted with removable linings for extra warmth, while the faux-shearling zip-up and fluffly mohair sweater have an air of functionality, like those Erdem wore himself during the good ol’ days in Canada where he spent his teenage years.

The collection also holds men’s essential pieces that are functional yet stylish in ERDEM’s books. We have our eyes on the crisp white Oxford shirt with a ruffled collar of an exact slim fit, to give the wardrobe of shirts with the usual collars something different for once.
