Just about a month ago, Burberry gave us a sneak peek into the brand’s first straight-to-consumer collection. There was little that could be deduced from the two campaign images but press notes revealed that the collection is influenced by writer Virginia Woolf’s Orlando.

The novel tells of a story set in the 17th century, of a poet who undergoes a sex change and lives for hundreds of years; a theme that allows Burberry to delve into a more genderless and romantic aesthetic with ruffles and silk shirts prominent on the male models.

On Burberry’s official Instagram, subsequent teaser videos show various nuances of the upcoming show. One of which features the weaving of a olive green carpet that’s inspired by the interiors designed by the late Nancy Lancaster, with a motif that’s teased to be found in the September collection.

As first announced back in February this year, the September collection will replace the traditional “fall/winter” moniker and be geared towards a global audience. The collection will then be immediately available for purchase online as well as in stores, a move that had prompted many other fashion brands to rethink the fashion system.

Burberry will also shift its show venue from Hyde Park to Makers House at 1 Manette Street. The new venue will also serve as a gallery of sorts as Burberry partners with British home and lifestyle brand The New Craftsmen. Artisans will showcase their interpretations of Burberry’s September collection and will be available for public viewing from 21-27 September.
