True Blood actor, Alexander Skarsgård, stars in a new 10 minute short film with Finnish fashion model Suvi Koponen for Calvin Klein’s Spring / Summer 2013 campaign.
Directed by French art director and magazine editor, Fabien Baron, the film is broken down into various segments with enigmatic titles such as “Scultural Relief” and “Reverence in Worship”. We see Skarsgård and Koponen in a myriad of landscapes and settings; from tumbling down an asphalt dune, groping each other in an old motel, to staring transfixed into each other eyes in an austere concrete room. “My eyes into yours. Erratic steps”, mumbles a poetic Skarsgård. “Madness blooms. Radiates. Implodes.”
Unashamedly arthouse, the film is a visual feast which is only heightened by the dramatic score, “Og Lengra”, composed by Icelandic producer Olafur Arnalds. Yet, holding the seemingly fragmented segments together is the constant juxtaposition of the clean and classic lines of Calvin Klein’s lastest collection (whether in the form of crisp ivory suits or distressed denims) against the recurring theme of destructive beauty: fire, shattering glass and billowing smoke. And of course, the electrying chemistry between Skarsgård and Koponen.
As the women’s Creative Director of Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa, said during New York Fashion Week last September, “It’s erotic again”. But then again, when was it not?
