Comme des Garçons brings its streetwear sensibilities to bear once again with their latest collaboration with the Nike brand. Originally unveiled at the Japanese label’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection, the CdG x Air Jordan 1 Retro High adopts a monochromatic colour scheme with metallic details. The use of rivets, grommets and clasps give it a rebellious and edgy vibe, which is further accentuated by the extended tongues.

This new Air Jordan 1 release is as much a homage to biker culture as it is to CdG’s 80s punk roots. The label’s calling card has always been one of unusualness – a sentiment that is accurately reflected in their latest Nike collaboration. The CdG x Air Jordan 1 subverts the standard AJ1 design configuration; not to the point of risking the loss of its essence but enough to make it stand out. Co-branding is featured along the marked tongue tags and insoles, leading with the Jumpman silhouette for a slightly more muted look that allows the metallic accents to take centre stage.

Release has been pegged to two sets of dates. Those residing in New York will be able to pick up the new CDG x Air Jordan 1 on August 2 at the local Dover Street Market and Comme des Garçons flagship stores for US$345. A wider release is expected to drop sometime in September so if you happen to miss out the first time around, just hang tight till the following month!
