The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living. Today, we say goodbye to the proud father of Sharan Valiram, Ashvin Valiram and Mukesh Valiram. Malaysia will long remember Datuk Jethanand Valiram as the man whose entrepreneurial zeal and foresight has seen through the evolution of the Valiram enterprise; the great patriarch of the Valiram family; and the driving force who led the group with commitment, dedication and progressive vision – the man who at the tender age of 16, took over the family business after the sudden death of his father and dedicated his life to building it ever since.

But for those who loved him, and ache with his passing, know Datuk Jethanand by the other titles he held: Father. Husband. Grandfather. Brother. Uncle. For many others in the city where he worked for nearly half a century, knew him as a boss, a colleague, a mentor, and above all, as a friend.

Up until his death, Datuk Jethanand remained closely involved in the business as chairman and advisor. His never-ending dive, determination and commitment to the enterprise is the standard that will stay with the group. And in his personal life, he is well respected among the local communities and has devoted his time to philanthropic initiatives close to his heart.

Eldest son, Valiram Executive Director Sharan said, “He lived a glorious life and went with much dignity. He is a legend and his life was a grand celebration.”

Datuk Jethanand Utumal Valiram is survived by his wife Datin Champa Kirpalani Valiram, sons Sharan, Ashvin and Mukesh, daughters-in-law, Lavina, Monica and Roshan, and grandchildren, Neerav, Divesh, Harein, Jiya and Aarav.

Our deepest condolences to the Valiram family. He will be missed by all but his memory will live on in us all. May God bless Datuk jethanand and may he rest in eternal peace.
