Inspired by 13th-century travelogue of Marco Polo, Il Milione.

“I hate to travel,” says Alessandro Michele, Gucci creative director. While the admission might not sound odd, note this—the spring/summer 2017 collection is inspired by the romantic notion of foreign travel and exploration of the land unknown. Citing the 13th-century travelogue of Marco Polo, Il Milione, Michele says, “You can travel in different ways. With a book, you can travel.” Throughout the whole collection, references to wanderlust are made with prints and embroideries of various cultures from different times. Notable pieces include a greatcoat with Donald Duck and cherry blossom embroideries, and a short-sleeved changshan with Donald Duck and oriental motifs, all seeking to stimulate the imagination.
