On this day, 33 years ago, Nike debuted the Air Max 1, its first sneaker that showcased the now iconic Air technology through a side-visibility window. The Swoosh continues to celebrate the ingenuity of the revolutionary cushioning platform every March 26, dubbed Air Max Day.
This year, Nike pays homage to the countless Air Max variations over the years that have paved the way for the future of Air, from the recent Air Max 90 Flyease to the Air Max Verona.
Here are the latest drops that you can now purchase at Nike’s online shopping platform, SNKRS.
First off, the Air Max 2090 pack paves the way for the year’s Air Max Day collection, one of the iterations for the year – alongside the 30th anniversary Air Max 90 CS and the Air Max 90 Flyease, as Nike celebrates 30 years of the Air Max 90 throughout 2020.
The current “shoe of the future” is designed to illustrate what the future holds: a larger Air unit that aims for an all-day comfort; distinct grooves for flexibility that echoes the waffle outsole of old; and colourways that are in part inspired by the future of transportation, an ode to the original Air Max 90’s inspiration drawn from Italian sports cars.
The cult-favourite duck camo print makes a comeback this Air Max Day with the Nike Air Max Duck Camo Pack. First seen in the 2013 Air Max 90 Atmos, the new pack includes an inverted color scheme of the original Air Max 90 Duck Camo shoe, and a duck-camo-printed Air Max 2090 peeking out of a translucent-layered upper.
