When it comes to menswear during awards season, there is usually not much to talk about, as familiar faces rock up the red carpet as more of a complementary piece to their female counterparts’ more distinguishable gowns. Much like how television is stealing the spotlight from summer blockbusters lately, the red carpet at the recent 69th Primetime Emmy Awards (Emmys) have shone brighter than the Oscars’ earlier this year, when the men were donned in suits as memorable as the opposite sex – if not, if we dare say, better.
While actresses like Nicole Kidman (Calvin Klein by Appointment), Reese Witherspoon (Stella McCartney), Jessica Biel (Ralph & Russo) and Evan Rachel Wood (Moschino) continued to blow the Internet away with their breathtaking looks, the men have turned heads as well with their choices of suits that go beyond the restrictions of a black tie event. Whilst some kept the traditional palette of black, blue and white, some stepped out of the box in the subtlest yet most elegant manner opting for suits with patterns and bold colours, as well as accessorising with more than just a simple bowtie – one even went as far as a top hat and a walking cane!
