Introduced in the 1960s, the Admiral Cup model was a peculiar yachting timepiece with a water-resistance square case. However, the Corum Admiral collection that is famous among watch fans, is an advancement of the Admiral’s Cup model reworked in 1983, with a well-known 12-sided case and nautical pennants on the dial. Throughout the years, this assemblage dedicated to the eminent regatta has not only become an integral pillar of Corum, yet one of the best nautical-inspired wristwatches in the history.
One of the noticeable features of the Admiral timepiece is the 12 nautical pennants as hour markers. These flags also go along with the International Code of Signals for indicating numbers using vibrant flags, hence its corresponding pennant represents each hour.
The new Admiral 42 Automatic Full Black is the complete contrast of its colourful predecessors and a very first within the Admiral productions. It attributes the classic dodecagonal case in black PVD-treated stainless steel, paired with blackened brass dial. The nautical pennants, minute markers visible in greyscale tones to balance the austerity of the all-black design, while markers for the minute and small seconds are made obvious using a tone-on-tone effect. Perfect for the season, the well-famed matchmaking company presents colourful and flashy hour’s markers flags in five colours: blue, red, yellow, green, and orange.
According to the watch development department, “The main objective is to go against the classic codes of watchmaking by proposing a trendy watch instead of a traditional case in steel or gold. In addition, the Swiss luxury watch brand wanted to break the codes of its Admiral collection representing classic navigation. The nautical flags of this new Admiral 42 Automatic are coloured in different flashy tints.”
The Dauphine-style hour and minute hands are also skeletonized and added with Black PVD manipulation. Then, it is filled with prismatic superlominova to secure great legibility. Vulcanized black rubber straps with a black PVD are treated with a full apprehensive appearance. The original form, in full black of this Admiral 42 Automatic, was invented to provide this dark knight of a watch as mysterious, sporty yet intriguingly elegant at the same time.
The Admiral 42 Automatic Full Black is powered by the automatic CO 395 movement, which includes 42 hours power supply. It also holds out a 50 meters water resistance. All variations of the watch made are limited to 100 pieces only.
