OMEGA recently celebrated a true milestone: the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The event didn’t just mark humanity’s first successful ascent onto the lunar plane – it also established the Swiss watchmaker’s horological prowess as the first watch worn on the moon.

The anniversary celebrations took place at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and was attended by a prestigious guest list comprising NASA veterans such as Charlie Duke and Thomas Stafford, as well as Omega brand ambassador and Hollywood A-Lister George Clooney.

During a special “Golden Moments” dinner that took place underneath the majestic Saturn 5 rocket, Omega president and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann commented, “It’s a huge achievement to land on another world. I can’t think of a better reason to raise a glass in tribute.”

Omega launched an exclusive Speedmaster in 18K Moonshine gold in celebration of the moon landing’s 50th anniversary. The 42mm watch sports a fairer golden tone compared to conventional yellow gold, but you can rest assured that the alloy’s luster won’t diminish as quickly over the years.

The watch is powered by a new movement: the Omega Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. The manual-winding Omega co-axial escapement movement features the trademarked Moonshine gold plated main plate and bridges, in addition to burgundy markings. The watch is limited to just 1,014 pieces.
