Only Watch, an international watchmaking charity event that helps raise funds for scientific and medical research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, will see the entry of Piaget. The watchmaker nominates a special make from its exquisite Black Tie Vintage Inspiration range.
The Black Tie Vintage Inspiration watch is characterised by its minimalist approach towards dressing up the gentleman. The 2015 model, for instance, goes down the monochromatic path. The dial is made of polished black onyx stone, whose monotonic appearance is only broken up by a pair of needle-thin minute and hour white gold batons as well as the iconic Piaget logo.
Encircling the dial are smooth Art Deco-inspired lines dug into the white gold 45mm x 43mm cushion-shaped case. Paired with a semi-matte black alligator leather strap, the watch appears as luxurious as any dress watch on the market.
However, as a big point of difference, Only Watch’s Black Tie Vintage Inspiration takes after the original Black Tie model by reverting back to using yellow gold on both case and hands. The strap is of brown alligator leather without visible stitching. It has also abandoned the conservative aesthetic by incorporating wild swirls of warm tones on the dial, resulting in an oil-paint-on-canvas look, thanks to the brown pietersite gemstone utilised for its dial.
The watch runs on a Piaget 534P automatic movement—the same calibre housed in regular Black Tie and Altiplano pieces. To mark the occasion, the caseback is engraved with the inscription “Only Watch 2017 – Unique Piece”.
The Only Watch auction is set for Saturday, 11 November 2017, 2.30pm Geneva time. In the meantime, Piaget will be exhibiting the watch in various events worldwide.
