Art and functionality have come together in the new IKEA art event collection. Renowned for its flat-packed, affordable, and modern furniture, many have considered IKEA a one-stop-shop for all things home related.
The lifestyle brand has endeavoured to create a better everyday life for the people without compromising the planet, and the aesthetic of your home. Since 2015, it has also collaborated with different artists to celebrate artistic expressions through various mediums, in hopes to democratise art. “We choose to work with different artists from around the world to reflect the diversity of art and design coming together,” said Henrik Most, Creative Leader for IKEA Art Event.
This year, the Swedish label partnered with artists, Daniel Arsham, Gelchop, Humans since 1982, Sabine Marcelis and Stefan Marx to blur the fine line between art and design. These artists conceived a collection that features 10 home furnishing objects, infused with art and creativity.
“Each item in this collection has a practical function, and at the same time, it is an art object,” said Most. “The traditional idea of art being high-end and design being part of mass culture simply is not relevant anymore. The two go fantastic together – that is where the magic happens”.
Reimagine everyday objects with an artistic twist
The IKEA Art Event collection can be experienced with the brand’s new AR effect on Instagram. Users and inquisitive minds are encouraged to try them out ahead of the official launch at IKEA Tampines and Alexandra.
