What’s one perk of being an AUGUSTMAN subscriber (aside from access to great content, of course)? Being invited to exclusive private events. On 22 March, we took our readers and VIPs for a Paul Smith experience.
Held at Paul Smith’s Mandarin Gallery boutique, which is also the British brand’s flagship in Singapore, over 40 guests turned up for an introduction to Paul Smith’s spring/summer 2016 collection. And because the flagship boutique has the most comprehensive collection of all things Paul Smith, there was a lot to discover.

Managing Editor Darren Ho gave guests a lesson on Paul Smith’s rich history with tailoring and music – a consistent attitude season after season. There was also a brief education on why wool suiting shouldn’t only be relegated as winter wear and in turn, how to make it work this side of the globe. Which is quite easily done with Paul Smith’s unlined construction and lightweight wool suits. Key lesson learnt: wool keeps you warm in winter and cool in the summer.

To demonstrate how easy it is to fit Paul Smith to an individual’s style, we had one of our guests for the evening to participate in a complete Paul Smith makeover. Wei, a Property Developer, was decked out in a polka-dot seersucker unlined blazer, cotton shirt and slim-fit trousers as opposed to his usual mantra of keeping his outfit simple and classic.

Thanks to the kind folks at Paul Smith, guests were given a special event-only privilege for their purchases of the season’s latest. No AUGUSTMAN event would be complete without some bubbly to make the night merrier and thanks to Sarment, the drinks kept flowing while guests took to the fitting rooms.

Paul Smith boutiques are located at Hilton Hotel Singapore, Takashimaya and Mandarin Gallery.
