Earlier on this year, our colleague and watch fanatic Sean Mossadeg went on an experiential training programme with former Navy SEAL and current CEO of SEAL Team Physical Training Inc, John McGuire to understand what the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL programme is like, just… less intense. Along with the programme, he was testing out the Luminox Navy SEAL Colormark Nova, the latest timepiece from the SEAL-approved label that’s designed for rugged use.
The Colormark Nova bears all the hallmarks of the brand’s classic Navy SEAL series, made of carbon fibre-reinforced polymers that ensure the watch is incredibly light, along with its resistance to electrical conductivity. They also bear the micro gas light tubes that are self-powered and deliver bright visibility even in pitch darkness for up to 25 years, something that ensures Navy SEALs can execute their missions in precise time even in the dark. These are on the straight indices on the dial and the hands, along with a tube on the bezel at 12 o’clock. At the same time, SuperLuminova has been coated on the circular indices on the dial for added luminosity. The powerful water resistance on the watch ensures these devices work under high atmospheric pressure, and they bear a unidirectional rotating bezel with a 20-minute countdown for divers to reference when decompressing.
The watch is available ($595 without GST) in a variety of colour options, hence its name, ranging from military green to bright yellow. These are retailed with a polyurethane strap or a striped webbing NATO strap that’s designed for rough and rugged use. The set will be sold with a waterproof pelican box, ideal for underwater secure use. It’s set to debut worldwide in Singapore from 20th November 2015 (that is, tomorrow), at all leading departmental stores such as TANGS, Robinsons Orchard, Metro The Centrepoint, OG Orchard Point and watch retailers island-wide.
