When A-Lister and social entrepreneur Joe Tan first conceived the idea for Music for a Cause two years ago, he didn’t think much of it. All he wanted to do was to make a difference, no matter how small.
On that evening, 10 local bands played their hearts out to raise money for five social causes. It was a roaring success and generated a lot of donations, so Joe brought it back last year on a bigger stage.
Music for a Cause returns this year for the third time running with eight homegrown bands and musicians including Shigga Shay, Charlie Lim (above) and 53A, supporting eight diverse Singaporean causes. These include Actions for Singapore Dogs, Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter and Care Corner Counselling Centre among others.
Besides the tunes, there will also be 16 local entrepreneurs setting up booths at the event. Search for cool T-shirts at Salty Customs, browse the art on display at Starwallz Kreationz or just sample the local craft beers from 1925 Brewing Co.
And if you’re a health nut, there will also be yoga and CrossFit stations, where you can put those muscles to work for charity.
Once again, FRANK by OCBC is returning as a sponsor.
“We want our youths to invest in their passions, and develop values and qualities to take charge of their goals and make a positive difference to society. There is great synergy between FRANK by OCBC’s belief in the empowerment of youth passions and MFAC as an avenue to channel their passions into positive action, toward meaningful social causes. We are proud to support Music for a Cause for the second year in a row, and witness the platform grow year-on-year,” said Mr Goh Theng Kiat, CMO, Group Marketing, Global Consumer Financial Services, OCBC Bank.
Music for a Cause 2018 is on 20 January 2018 (Saturday) from 10am to 10.30pm at Singapore Management University, Campus Green.
