Anime fans will want to keep an eye out for Netflix in the months ahead. The streaming giant has announced that it will premiere 40 new original anime titles on the platform this year.
Netflix revealed its plans at the all-virtual AnimeJapan 2021, showcasing its diversifying slate of anime projects. The number of new original titles is close to double what Netflix brought to fans of the genre last year.
The virtual event also revealed the worldwide release of Record of Ragnarok. The adaptation of the hugely successful manga of the same name, will arrive on the platform in June. Also joining the line-up is comedic, slice-of-life series The Way of the Househusband due for release on 8 April. Fans of Resident Evil can also look forward to Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, slated to premiere later this year.

The Way Of The Househusband
Tatsu is a legend of the underworld with an impressive number of defeated rival gangs under his belt. Feared among the yakuza as “The Immortal Dragon”, the gangster decides to retire and become a devoted househusband. However, his quest for a peaceful life becomes upended when several assassins attempt to take him out.
Premiere Date: 8 April
Oscar nominee LaKeith Stanfield lends his voice to Yasuke, a peaceful boatman once known as the Black Samurai. When a local village comes under attack, Yasuke has no choice but to take up his sword again. Forced into conflict, Yasuke protects a mysterious child who becomes the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords. In a war-torn feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic, the greatest ronin ever known goes back into battle.

Set thousands of years in the future, a city known as “Eden” is inhabited solely by artificial intelligence robots. However, during a routine assignment deep within the city, two maintenance robots accidentally awaken a human baby girl from stasis. This discovery starts to question their beliefs that humans were nothing more than a forbidden ancient myth. Deciding to protect the human, the robots hatch a plan to secretly raise the child in a haven outside Eden.

Record Of Ragnarok
The series tells the story of gods versus humans who battle each other to decide the fate of humanity. Thirteen gods from across the globe and 13 of the world’s most notable humans contest in one-on-one battles for survival. Based on the manga created by Azychika, Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui, an earnest battle of transcendental rage begins.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness
In 2006, traces of improper access to secret presidential files are found in the White House’s network. American federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is dispatched to investigate this incident. However once there, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies. Meanwhile, TerraSave staff member Claire Redfield encounters a mysterious image drawn by a youth in a country she visited. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to be of a victim of viral infection, Claire begins her own investigation. In time, these two zombie outbreaks in distant countries lead to events that shake the nation to its very core.
