To me, Jake Gyllenhaal has always seemed a little strange. I can’t quite place my finger on what it is, but he seems to be able to portray weird, intense, and sometimes borderline psychotic characters quite seamlessly. Take his roles in Jarhead, Donnie Darko, and most notably, Nightcrawler, for example. In the last role, he portrayed ruthless freelance newsman Louis Bloom so convincingly it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand.
Gyllenhaal’s latest role(s), courtesy of a Tom Ford romantic thriller, finds him playing a divorced author who begins discovering the dark truths about himself and his ex-wife (played by Amy Adams). Nocturnal Animals, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Venice International Film Festival, is gripping movie straddles the thin line between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption. The brilliant cinematography combined with exceptional performances by the actors make this neo-noir film a must watch.
Nocturnal Animals will be in cinemas islandwide, 1 December 2016. Check out the trailer below:
