We admit, we’re not the biggest fans of rugby and would rather watch 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes. But the HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s that’s coming to town next week is not just about sports; it’s also a huge carnival.
Having said that, the national rugby teams coming down to Singapore on 15 and 16 April to compete with each other are the some of the best in the sport. Perennial favourites New Zealand (kids there are born with rugby balls in their hands, that’s the only way to explain their dominance), Fiji, France and Australia are just some of the world-class teams coming down. Reigning champion Kenya, who shocked Fiji in last year’s final, is also back to defend its crown.
For those not into the rucking, the event organisers have also promised non-stop entertainment, reminiscent of the concerts at the Singapore edition of the Formula One calendar. And the party doesn’t stop when the final rugby ball is drop kicked. A shuttle service from the National Stadium will bring you to Clarke Quay for the Music After 7s, the official after party.
To be honest, we rarely need a reason to party but the line-up of acts and plethora of food and drink promotions are very, very enticing. Check out the official poster below.
