Today is a big day for Singapore. Joseph Schooling is now the first Singaporean man to make it to the swimming finals at the Olympics. Both our Singapore swimmers, Schooling and Quah Zheng Wen, made it past the heats, with Quah just making it in at 16th place. Meanwhile Schooling beat Michael Phelps once again and not only did he beat Phelps, but he took 1st place above Hungary’s László Cseh and the United States’s Tom Shields as well.

Unfortunately, in the semi-finals later on, Quah did not make it to the finals, while Schooling did after clinching first place again. In what was an amazing race to watch, Schooling clocked in a finish at nearly a full second before everyone else.

Michael Phelps may have just won Olympic gold medal number 22, and is the first swimmer to ever win the same individual event four times, but Singapore might just be stealing this particular gold medal from him. As long as Schooling keeps up his fantastic pace.
