WITH all the hype about the newly-released Avengers: Endgame, everyone’s still debating who the strongest Avenger is.
But if you’re a real fan, are you really satisfied with how the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) heroes fared in the finale?
In the great world of Marvel, there are actually many heroes that could stand up to Thanos, all by themselves. You may ask “Why weren’t they in the movie then?”
Besides the obvious necessity of following the storyline, the reason is simple — they were just too OP.
That’s why we’re satisfying your nerdiest fantasies here — these are 4 Marvel characters that could’ve squashed Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.
01: Phoenix (Jean grey)

Jean Elizabeth Grey is an Omega-level mutant, already making her one of the most powerful telepaths.
As the host of the Phoenix Force, however, she wields the unlimited power of one of the oldest cosmic entities — an indestructible manifestation of the prime, universal force of life.
In other words, she controls and manipulates pure matter, energy, and thoughts completely.
It’s understandable why Jean Grey fighting Thanos wouldn’t be good for the screen — there wouldn’t even be a fight to watch. She’s capable of healing and destroying multiverses; Thanos can’t beat that, even with his gauntlet.
Not to worry though: With the Dark Phoenix premiering this year, she’s getting more screentime to show her true powers.
02: Galactus

Known as the Devourer of Worlds, Galactus roams the multiverse, looking for planets to consume to satisfy his endless hunger.
Thanos is super strong, but he didn’t survive the Big Bang like Galactus did.
Galactus is a cosmic entity as well as a constant in the multiverse, and his powers increase with the number of planets he devours.
In the comics, he has been known to go up against full superhero teams without a single scratch.
In terms of sheer power, Thanos doesn’t stand a chance, not without the Infinity Stones to do some reality-warping to even the odds.
03: Odin

For sure — Thor’s father wasn’t in Avengers: Endgame because of how strong Odin was himself.
On one hand, you have Thanos who is a god-like man tapping into forces he learnt to control. Odin on the other, is a man-like god, embodying the very entities Thanos is trying to command.
Odin is the greatest schemer of the Nine Realms and one of the wisest divinities associated with Earth.
What Thanos has been doing for a few hundred years, Odin has been doing for at least five thousand, probably a lot more.
In fact, there has been only one instance in the comics when they have come up against each other — guess who won?
04: Scarlet Witch (comic version)

Friendly reminder that Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch was destroying an Infinity Stone with one hand while holding back a FIVE stoned Thanos with the other. She really is THAT powerful. pic.twitter.com/fLtpRDm208

Wanda Maximoff (a.k.a Scarlet Witch)’s greatest feat on the screens was holding back Thanos while destroying the Mind Stone in Vision. That was one of the most pivotal scenes in Infinity War which made her the fan-favourite Avenger.
Yet this is an absolute pittance; what the Russo brothers showed was just a fraction of her true power, making her one of the most nerfed characters in the Avengers plotline.
In fact, Scarlet Witch’s abilities could trample the entire MCU — she almost annihilated the entire mutant population one time just by speaking the words “No more mutants”. Even Thanos had to collect six stones before killing that many in one shot.
Then again, if they made it so easy to beat the bad guys in Avengers: Endgame, would they be breaking box office records?
