Launched as part of the “Louis Vuitton / Marc Jacobs” Exhibition, which is currently showing at the Musée Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris till 16 September 2012, the new Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs Book is more than just an ostentatious coffee table accessory. Through 300 images and illustrations, the book provides an insight into the lives of two visionaries and their common ability to use cultural codes and trends to shape contemporary fashion. The first section is devoted to Louis Vuitton and how, as a penniless thirteen year old, left his hometown of Anchay for Paris and slowly developed a trunks and baggage company that would become favoured by the European bourgeoisie. The latter section chronicles Marc Jacobs’ tenure as Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton since 1997; crediting his “fashion spirit” and penchant for artistic collaborations with the likes of Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince for breathing new life into the Parisian house. The book is available in “limited edition” and “bookstore edition”. The limited edition features mirror paper and silk-screened portraits of Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton on the hardcover (protected in a laser-cut slipcase) and is only available in six Louis Vuitton stores worldwide come this April. Luckily for us, one of these stores so happens to be the Marina Bay Louis Vuitton Store. The bookstore edition has the same content (without all that cover art jazz) and is available in book retailers worldwide this April.
