Riccardo Tisci, the now former designer of Givenchy who revived the fashion house, has worked with Nike on many occasions in the past. He’s redeveloped Air Force 1s, Flyknit trainers, and the Air Zoom Legend chelsea boot. He’s an ideal designer for Nike collaborations, given his love of fashion and technical materials and acceptance of street style. He’s constantly integrated it into his work at Givenchy, giving rise to its statement graphic tees that the entire fashion world went mad for.

This week, at the start of New York Fashion Week, Nike dropped a range of new Dunk Luxes designed by Tisci. Rather than the standard Dunk Lux High mod, the two have created a mid, that’s called the Dunk Lux Chukka x RT. The shoe comes in red/white and black/white colourways, with two versions for the latter. He explained that the designs were inspired by ’80s basketball and the skating culture that he’s so fond of.

It’s got full grain leather uppers, a drop-in insole for comfy wear and memory foam (yep, what’s in your pillow) in the quilted leather collar and Nike’s stamp all over. We managed to get our hands on a pair to test out the shoe and we’re obsessed with it.

Dunk Luxes are not compact players. They are big and statement making and Tisci’s take on the model is no different. It’s not heavy considering it’s a full leather shoe, and highly comfortable. The outsole is flexible and workmanship looks pretty good, including the stitching on the outsole. The outdoor campaign for the shoes feature Tisci with Bella wearing versions of the black/white colourways and looks great.

The shoes drop at Bergdorf Goodman’s NikeLab today as well as NikeLab 21M, New York’s Dover Street Market, Kith BK and Concepts NYC. They will be available at NikeLab retailers and Nike’s website from Feb 23rd onwards. You saw it here first.
