Negroni Week arrives in Singapore once more, taking place at participating bars around the island from now till 30 June. This is the fifth time the festival has arrived in our city since its advent in 2013, and what makes the 2019 edition stands out is that it celebrates a full century since the negroni was invented. In that spirit, Negroni Week 2019 promises to be much bigger, and much better than ever before.
Last year, over 70 bars around Singapore joined in the negroni fray, with each offering their own interpretation of the bittersweet aperitif. This year, expect more cocktail establishments taking part, including the likes of some of our city’s favourites, such as Jigger & Pony, Cook & Tras Social Library and The Old Man Singapore.
Jigger & Pony, for example, will be shaking up the Pome Negroni, a fruity take on the classic, while Cook & Tras will push out glasses of the Salted Berry Negroni, which sees the negroni enhanced with salted strawberries for more depth.
Negroni Week, however, is more than just your opportunity to drink innovative renditions of the cocktail. The driving force behind the initiative is that it allows patrons to drink for a good cause. Its founders, Campari and Imbibe Magazine, have a charity initiative that gives bars the opportunity to donate a part of the proceeds they get from each negroni sold during the week to an organisation of their choice, so you can easily support any cause between women’s rights to mental health and more with your favourite drink. Can you think of a better reason to order a negroni? We can’t.
This weekend, make your way down to any of the participating bars to get a negroni fix or two. For the full roster, see here.
