Nope, this is not another gastropark (that’s one MRT stop away). Instead think of Savourworld at 2 Science Park Drive as a new style of dining in Singapore. One that resembles a food hall in its curation of tenants but meshes the concept of a hawker centre (democratic seating and food variety) with a food court (affordable prices, more pleasant surroundings), all wrapped up with a casual restaurant ambience (less stuffy and more lifestyle in feel). In short, this is a place to go to for lunch, after work drinks, or over the weekend when you don’t feel like dealing with traffic, or a dress code.

While only 18 of the 30 tenants are currently open for business, there’s still a decent variety to choose from, and eventually also monthly events, starting with this month’s Oktoberfest, and a regular entertainment schedule.

Meantime here’s our pick of what to eat at Savourworld.

—

Wildfire Chicken & Burgers

Think fried chicken (from $5 a piece), juicy burgers (from $10) and pre-bottled cocktails (from $16) by L.A.B Inc. It’s hard to give this spot a miss especially with seven different burgers on the menu. And judging by what we tasted – a mini version of The Classic – the super juicy patty sweetend with a touch of caramalised onions has us making plans to come back for more.

Licktionary

We liked the name, we like that the scoops were generous in size (and at just $3.80 each) and the fact that they’re freshly churned inhouse with no added colourings. The flavour combinations aren’t your usual suspects, there’s ‘Lust’ which is a semi-sweet dark chocolate studded with frozen cherries, ‘Kampung’ a rich tasting scoop similar to chendol (coconut, gula melaka and pandan), the unusual ‘Happy’ which combined citrus orange flavours with the malty goodness of Horlicks and lighter, more floral scoops like ‘Peace’ made with chrysanthemum flowers.

The Good Beer Company
What started as a craft beer store in Chinatown Complex by resident beer guru Daniel Goh has now traveled west. As expected the  offerings are diverse with eight beers on draft (from $10 at happy hour) – a mixture of ales, lagers, stout and IPA – plus a wall of refrigerators stocked with craft brews, ciders, ales from all over the world.

Tokyo Joe

One of the more upmarket venues at Savourworld, Tokyo Joe serves up crowd pleasers like chirashi (from $13) and donburi bowls (from $12) served with an onsen egg ($2) over the lunch hour. Come night, they add on yakitori sticks (from $2-$28) that’s grilled over charcoals, some bar bites (from $4) and an extensive menu of Japanese beers, sake, shochu and whiskies.

Chinese Noodle Bar by Blue Lotus

As the name suggests, noodles are its speciality, and for this branch of Blue Lotus, the menu skews towards more Northern Chinese flavours. Dishes such as the king prawn la mian ($16) and the aromatic Truffle Mushroom & Beansprout Noodles ($13) are signature orders. There’s also side dishes like the juicy

Chilli Pomelo Crabmeat & Minced Pork Xiao Long Bao ($9 for 4 pieces) and Tea Smoked Egg ($1.50) that make for nice add-ons and charcoal grilled skewers (from $3) if you’re after a small bite.

#01-26

Cha Tra Mue

Here, the obsession with Thai ice tea goes beyond just the beverage – they do serve a range in flavours like original, lychee rose, honey rose from $3 – and onto a cone as a creamy, soft serve ice-cream ($3.50 each) in Original Thai Tea, Milk Green Tea and Mixed flavours.
