How do you sell fragrances? There are so many out there on the market. Do you plaster a celebrity’s face on it, concoct a story and hope that the public will be compelled enough to give it a try? Or do you show everything except the perfume, creating a lifestyle that you might identify with? I believe the marketing folks call it “aspirational”.

One of the best fragrance commercials we’ve seen recently was directed by Spike Jonze and starring American model and actress Margaret Qualley. It was zany, off-the-wall and had absolutely nothing to do with the fragrance Kenzo World. We have no idea how it smells like, what the notes of the perfume are and even whether it’s a male or female fragrance. And yet, the advertisement has got everyone talking. If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is below.

But the Kenzo World commercial isn’t the only fragrance spot that left us befuddled and wanting more. Here are, in our opinion, the four kookiest, sexiest and most fun fragrance advertisements that left a big impression on us.

Versace Pour Homme Dylan Blue

There are homoerotic undertones, Gigi Hadid punching men in the face and throwing people off buildings, and a narrator sharing his experience with a woman, which seemingly has nothing to do with the story. We are as confused as you. However the fragrance does smell great.

Mr. Burberry

Backed by the amazing voice of Benjamin Clementine and starring the feminine charms of Amber Anderson, Mr. Burberry‘s commercial is a sexy romp across London that we can watch over and over again. Absolutely stunning work.

Dior Sauvage

Christian Dior never does anything half-heartedly. Launched last year, Dior Sauvage quickly gained became a fan favourite. Johnny Depp being the face of the fragrance also helped. The brand hasn’t stopped its efforts and recently launched a four-episode mini-series of men living among nature. It’s a gorgeous piece of cinematography and we highly recommend taking 30 minutes of your time to watch it. View the first episode below.

Chanel Platinum Egoiste

In our opinion, this is the best fragrance Chanel has created for men and has become a classic. The commercial, however, is… strange. There are a bunch of French women angrily shouting into thin air and opening and closing their doors repeatedly. Our only conclusion: it’s a bad idea to sleep with every woman who live in the same building as you.
