Jon Lin Shi Yang

Fear is a powerful motivator, and the one keeping Jon on his toes is the worry that success would get to him. He recounted his experience as a hotshot basketball player in his teens, and how an injury sent it all crumbling down. These days, he remains humble, despite a successful career, which now spans two tracks between medical analytics and his family’s business.
What made you sign up for this?

It’s something I haven’t done before, and I think being out of your comfort zone helps you to grow. Most people probably come in with a similar idea. You want to attract people with style, substance and success, and chances are these are people who just want to try new things.

How would you define the modern gentleman?
In terms of work, I think whether a modern gentleman enjoys what he does is secondary. What’s more important is that he has to find it meaningful, and that is why he chooses to do what he does every single day.

How do you see yourself?

I’m just a regular bloke. I may have achieved some things career-wise while fairly young, and it’s easy to think you’re special because of that. I’ve seen many others who had very different lifestyles and behaviours after tasting success because they’ve obviously made enough money to do some things. It’s easy to let these things get to you, and I try very hard not to.
