Get to know Zi Yang from the Augustman A-Lister 2019

Zi Yang

You’ll catch Zi Yang quietly studying his surroundings when left alone, which is interesting because everyone else would be scrolling through their smartphones instead. It didn’t take long before the lawyer warmed up and shared more about what the workforce needs to address, based on his sensitive and observant nature. Still waters run deep, indeed.

What other traits should an A-Lister possess?

He should have a genuine concern for people around him. To me, nothing reveals a gentleman’s character more than he does for his fellow men.

Have you always wanted to be a lawyer?

I’ve always wanted to be a scriptwriter, actually. But pursuing the legal profession opened up many opportunities for me to meet people from different walks of life. I derive satisfaction from getting to know people with various backgrounds, struggles, priorities, aspirations and such. It gives me the understanding of how different people view life, which I find very enriching.

Are there any causes that you feel for?

Based on my observation, it will be burnouts. I don’t think people realise that people burn out very easily no matter what industry they’re in. Singapore needs to look closely into how working professionals can easily fall into the trap of lifestyle imbalances. The concept of burning out is now recognised as a medical illness.
