Since its establishment in the idyllic city of Loretto, Kentucky in 1953, Maker’s Mark has been notorious for keeping the tradition and culture of producing premium American craft bourbon alive. Here, barrels are still hand-rotated the same way as it used to, as are the bottles which are hand-dipped into sealing wax and its labels, still printed by an old letterpress.

On the first floor sits the Wood room, which besides boasting little known facts about the cooperage and its barrel aging process, will also feature a wooden coaster personalisation service for a truly one-of-a-kind experience. After all, no two wax seals on the Maker’s Mark bottles are ever exactly the same.

The Wheat room puts the spotlight on the soft red winter wheat — the flavouring grain and star of its mash bill. Together with locally-grown corn and malted barley, the grain has been known to impart the trademark front-of-palate sweetness that Maker’s Mark has come to be known for. The pop-up will give guests a chance to not only taste the versatile wheat via delicious red winter wheat donuts that are fried on the spot, but also try their hand at making the tasty treats themselves.

Located next to a limestone shelf, the Maker’s Mark distillery has enjoyed not only its very own water source, but one that also filters out iron from the water, a mineral which is known to be naturally unpleasant in bourbon. The purity of this water is brought to life in the Water room, where an artistic projection highlights the details of this bourbon’s very foundation.

The Maker’s Mark experience culminates quite fittingly at the Wax room. One of the most defining features of the bourbon has been the 400-degree red wax in which bottles are hand-dipped into. Every bottle is said to unique to the folks on the dipping line, and the pop-up will give you a chance to see your own bottle of Maker’s Mark being hand-dipped before your very eyes. You can even express your personal style by customising the wax seal with your initials.
