Oris returns to the sea, this time for a good cause with the Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III. Created in collaboration with the Reef Restoration Foundation, the mission behind the watch is profoundly noble: to create awareness about the Great Barrier Reef and the dire state it’s in, as well as the condition of our oceans today.
In line with its oceanic conservation efforts, Oris launched The Oceans Project this year too. The green initiative is unique as it combines a collection of Oris watches and activities geared to boost conservation work. Some of the efforts undertaken by the foundation to date include a coral planting project off Fitzroy Island near Cairns.
The Swiss watchmaker’s latest diver’s timepiece was created based on the legendary Oris Aquis. The most arresting feature of the Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III is the watch face; the gradient blue dial is complemented by an aqua blue ceramic insert on the uni-directional rotating diver’s bezel, a nod to the stunning azure of reef waters.
Flip the 43.5mm stainless steel case back and you’ll discover engravings of corals and the Southern Cross (the constellation is only visible in the Southern Hemisphere and is present on the Australian flag too).
The watch is powered by the automatic Oris 743 movement, which lends it a small seconds and a circular date window. The watch also features a stainless steel bracelet that’s accompanied by stainless steel security folding clasp with extensions. The watch boasts a power reserve of 38 hours and is water-resistant to 300 metres.
The exclusive Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III is available in just 2,000 pieces. Each watch comes in a unique box constructed from environmentally friendly algae.
