Named “In Bloom”, the Burberry Spring/Summer 2021 collection takes inspiration from modern mythology. The campaign brings together contrasting worlds in an exploration of differing perspectives and viewpoints.
“For the Spring/Summer 2021 show, I wanted to create this incredible experience bringing together fashion, art, music, technology, live performance and to then explore the dialogue they have with each other,” said Riccardo Tisci. “I have always been inspired by the concept of duality, so it was amazing to see the unique energy and dynamic tension that was found in the fusion of all these worlds.
This campaign is all about continuing that examination of different perspectives, contrasting the rawness of the internal environment with the ever-blooming nature of the outdoors.
Photographed by Juergen Teller, the campaign features a dichotomy between the indoors and the outdoors, nature and fashion. Images of models immersed in nature are placed side by side with raw studio shots — encapsulating the idea of duality and juxtaposition.
Streetwear Meets Classic
Tapping onto the concept, this new collection remasters the brand’s iconic emblems and hallmarks with modern free energy — embodying a spirit of rebellion re-energising tradition. Models are seen in sleeveless trench coats, seam-sealed parka and garment-dyed pea coat. References from the contemporary fairy tale are showcased through seafaring inspired boiler suits as well as a neoprene car coat that features a shark fin motif.
Trousers are reimagined with smooth leather straps and tuxedo stripes while straight-leg trousers, plissé shorts and cut-out shirts are modernised with crystal embroideries and unconventional menswear fabrication like chiffon and organza.
The Burberry Spring/Summer 2021 collection explores the fusion of romanticism with innovation, form with function, and past with future. Through these opposing lenses, the brand has expanded and reaffirmed one of its signature house codes, duality.
