Woodstock, the iconic music festival that changed an entire generation with its message of music, peace and love might seem an unlikely starting point for a Moncler Grenoble collection. Out of all the collaborations this line’s aim is to uphold the values of the brand, tech driven but still deeply rooted in it’s DNA of functional ski wear and down jackets, a far cry from the patch-worked denim, hippy-dippy flower children who first attended the festival back in 1969. Sandro Mandrino, the collections creative director, sought to merge those differences through abstraction. Lifting elements like tie-dye and then applying the same technique on a turtleneck jumper or the fringing seen on western leather jackets and then using it on a polyester puffer are all examples of how he managed to merge those two disparate worlds. Elsewhere, swirly marble prints allude to the psychedelic nature of Woodstock as do the hot acid hues which appear throughout. The standout? A turtleneck emblazoned with the Woodstock logoof a bird perched on a guitar neck is a versatile piece that takes you from Après ski to downtown Shinjuku in style.
