Allan Wu seems to have made the great outdoors his second home. The actor and show host has been filming overseas for several adventure-themed reality programmes, including a Chinese version of The Amazing Race slated for release within the next couple of months. As such, one would expect his skin to be weathered by the constant exposure to the elements. Yet, the 47-year-old sports a complexion that could have passed for a 30-year-old’s. We had to ask how it’s possible. Can his youthful mien be attributed to his sunny disposition, a specific skincare regime, or an active lifestyle? Whatever it is, we felt inspired to age as well as Wu, and he obliged by sharing some useful tips during our photoshoot.
You’ve been spending a lot of time outdoors for both work and leisure. How do you keep your skin looking this healthy?
Thank you. Actually, all the travelling and time outdoors has exposed my skin to various climates and it isn’t all that great right now. It may not be noticeable, but I do have some dryness in some areas. If anything, I make it a point to moisturise. I also drink lots of water.
It’s also hard to believe that you’re turning 50 in three years’ time. Some people try to reverse the signs of ageing while others just let it be. Which group do you belong with?
I’m more concerned about failing joints – these will mean I can’t spend much time in my later years in the great outdoors, play basketball with my mates or spend time with my kids. When it comes to my skin, I try to keep my routine short and sweet. Anything above five steps is too much.
I like that the steps are straightforward. Other than that, I’ve noticed that the appearance of facial lines have faded within a week. I really like the Age-Less Power V Lifting Cream and the Skin Recharging Water Lotion. I sleep with the air-conditioner on and just the tiniest dollop of the cream has helped to protect my skin from drying out. I also use the lotion as a facial spritz to keep my skin fresh.
Other than skin care, how else do you keep yourself young and vital?
Honestly, I don’t really think much about ageing. I’ve come to accept that it’s a natural process. I don’t mind having some lines and age spots because it’s just part of the process. Stress ages you prematurely so I try to maintain a sense of calm. What’s more important is that you make the best of life. To me, there’s nothing that beats the glow on the face of someone who has lived a fulfilling life. AM
